The way a deposit safe works is that it has a slot, rotary or drawer at the top where items can be deposited.  This means that during the working day or night, items can be placed into the safe without it ever having to be opened.  This is great for businesses where money is being taken in all the time.  Many retail stores will do a cash pickup throughout the day where they will take most of the money from the cash registers and place it in the safe.  It means that the money is off the shop floor and away somewhere safe.  The reason for doing this is so that there is less chance of money getting stolen from a till.

Although most insurance companies will offer a lower cash rating level with deposit safes, they can be used in combination with other safes that have a higher security level.  The cash can be transferred from the deposit safe into the higher security safe at the end of the working day.

If you wanted to get a higher cash rating then you could buy a Eurograde deposit safe as they have secure locking mechanisms on the safe door and the drawer.  So while you can still deposit items into the safe through the drawer, the drawer has a lock which makes it a safer option.  There are also other options which would make a deposit safe more secure.  There are many deposit safes which will be installed into a wall so that only the drawer or letterbox is visible from one side of the wall.  The actual safe is behind the wall and can only be accessed by the authorised personnel.  You can also choose to have deposit safes which are placed under the floor.  There are many high security under-floor deposit safes available these days.

If you are planning to buy a deposit safe then it is important to speak to your insurance company first to see if this is acceptable.  You may even find that the price of your insurance will reduce because of the fact that you have a safe installed.  It will probably be necessary for you to get someone in to install your safe as your insurance company will usually require them to be bolted down.
