A Safer Storage Solution for Your Keys

Key storage is something that many home and business owners require in order to ensure that their properties are completely secure while allowing access for authorised individuals.

So why might your family or your company require secure storage for keys, and what kinds are available?

The team at eSafes have a number of options available to ensure that your keys - and those of your employees or cohabitants - are as safe as possible.

Why Might I Need Key Storage?

Key storage solutions allow keys to be kept on site within easy reach of those who will need to let themselves into certain rooms or areas without requiring them to have their own key copy that could be misplaced or damaged should they take it with them.

What Kinds of Key Storage Are There?

You can select from a variety of key storage options at eSafes. These include:

  • Key safes
  • Key cabinets
  • Emergency key boxes

We’ll explain a little more about each of these below.

Key Safes

This storage solution is simple to implement and use, whether in your home or place of work. A key safe is a highly secure container, usually fastened to a wall and accessible through a variety of options, including mechanical or electronic push button coded entry, combination lock or key lock.

It holds a relatively small number of keys, and is heavily reinforced, making it extremely difficult to smash open. Many key safes are also fireproof.

To use this security option, you usually need to open the front, set a code, push down the lock (which is often found in a central position above the keypad or combination) and release it once the safe is closed.

You will then need to enter your chosen code to open it again.

Key Cabinets

In order to safely store greater numbers of keys, you could choose a key cabinet. This is a larger container - often found in offices and professional environments. Usually, key cabinets contain rows of hooks on which you can organise a series of keys in whichever way you prefer.

Again, these storage solutions are extremely secure. You can choose from mechanical or electronic coded entry, combination lock or key lock access.

The best approach to this type of storage is to give the cabinet’s code or key to a manager. Staff members can then either request access to the cabinet on a case by case basis or at the start of a working day, signing keys out and then back in again when they are finished.

Emergency Key Boxes

You might select an emergency key box if, in an emergency, a member of staff may require access to valuable items or vital equipment that is not regularly used - or could be considered dangerous in other circumstances.

Some of these boxes include a clear panel on the door so that an individual can check whether their required key is inside. Many come with two locking mechanisms - key-based entry and a padlock.
