Choose A Gun Safe In 6 Steps

Gun Safe Image 2Here at eSafes we have been selling Gun Cabinets nationwide for years now and are regularly asked the same questions by customers when it comes to choosing one:

“How big do I need?”
“Where’s best to install it?”
“What type of lock should I get?”

So we’ve decided to use the most frequently asked questions and pull together a simple 6 Step Gun Cabinets Buying Guide.

1. Police Approval

Any gun safe you consider buying should be Police Approved. You need to make sure that the gun cabinet meets the BS7558/92 standard which is set out by the Police.

2. Size

Picking the right sized gun safe is the best way to start the rest of the decision process. You need a gun safe which is big enough for the guns you currently have and those you might get in the future. So we’d advise you pick a gun safe bigger than you need as it’ll help future proof the safe and save you buying another safe in years to come. Our team also recommends you measure the dimensions of your individual weapons and check they will fit into the gun cabinet you’re looking at. Just because the manufacturer says it’s a 7 gun safe doesn’t necessarily mean your 7 guns will fit.

3. Pick a Location

Knowing where you want to store your guns is the next step. Is the garage or bedroom going to be most convenient for you? Wherever you decide to put the gun cabinet we’d recommend you make sure it’s in a discrete spot that people can’t see when passing your house. Due to the nature of the contents you want to draw as little attention to your gun cabinet as possible.

4. Choosing a Lock?

Choosing between key or electronic locks on your gun cabinet is essentially down to personal preference – what will you feel most comfortable using? The majority of gun cabinets on the market are fitted with key locks but you can also get electronic locks on Burton Ranger Safes. They can be more expensive but you won’t have to worry again about losing or having your keys stolen.

Not all gun cabinets have fire resistance but if you can find a model that will fit all your weapons in and has fire resistance then it is worth paying the extra money to get one. The JFC GB2 Gun Cabinet will give you 60 minutes protection from fire and is one of our best sellers here on eSafes.

6. Picking a brand

As there are various manufacturers of gun cabinets on the market it can be hard to decide which brand to go for. Fortify were one of the bestselling brands before they recently went out of business and now we are finding a lot of customers are opting for the JFC brand. We have 28 JFC models available and they can hold from 2 to 9 guns. Best of all these Police Approved gun cabinets are available at great low prices and we’ll even throw in free delivery for you too!
