Guide To Delivery Options & Potential Pitfalls

This blog takes a closer look at the delivery and installation process that is involved in getting your brand new safe from us to you. It also points out some key areas to be aware of that could affect or delay your delivery.

Firstly we’ll go through the various delivery options that you see on eSafes in the delivery drop down lists and what they mean.

Curbside drop off delivery
On most safes this is the default free delivery option. This involves the delivery company parking outside your home or business and leaving the safe outside/on your driveway once some has signed for the product. In some situations they may drop the safe off inside a reception area if you have ordered a small safe but this isn’t guaranteed.

The key factor to take into consideration when choosing curbside delivery is the weight of the safe. For safes under 100kg you should be able to lift it from the curb into your property with one or two people. However if you’re buying a larger safe over 100kg then you will require more help, some equipment like a sack barrow and even specialist lifting devices. If you think this is going to pose a problem then it might be worth paying for the position or installation service.

Delivery & Position (Ground floor/suitable lift)
If you elect to go for this delivery option then our team will bring the safe into your home or office and position it exactly where you require it. This would just leave you needing to bolt the safe to the wall or floor. This is a popular delivery method for fireproof safes and filing cabinets as they don’t require bolting down so there is no need for a full installation process. Please note this cost only applies for ground floor locations or where there is a suitable lift that can take the weight of the safe. In other situations you’ll need to fill out a quote form (see below).

Delivery & Installation (Ground floor/suitable lift)
This delivery option offers the same as the above but by selecting it our team will also ensure the safe is securely bolted in place.
Installing safe
Deliveries via stairs/to upper floors
If you don’t have a lift or one that will take the weight of the safe then we’d require you to fill out a site survey form. This is so we can provide you with an installation quote. The site survey form makes our team are fully aware of key factors e.g. how many stairs, tight corners etc that need to be negotiated during the job. But don’t worry if you think your property might be too tricky to access as our team will always go the extra mile to ensure your safe is where you want it. For example recently we carried out a job in Yorkshire that required removing the window and lifting the safe into the property with our crane.

Potential Pitfalls to be aware of
There are a few key things that you should check when getting a safe delivered. The first one is to ensure your street has enough room to accommodate an 18 ton lorry. Even if you have ordered a smaller safe some delivery companies will still use a larger vehicle so please let us know if you think access will be a problem.

On the same theme if you’re located down a narrow alleyway or at the top of a block of flats check whether a curbside delivery will be suitable. For example if you property can’t be accessed by a lorry then they will leave it as close as they can so please ensure you can then lift the safe from the lorry back to your property. Again if you think access is an issue give us a call as a smaller van can be sourced and it can carry out the curbside drop off delivery closer to your property. Please be aware extra charges may apply in this situation.

Finally if you are in a city or busy town and your street has loading restrictions then please let us know in advance. For example if the delivery lorry arrives during a time in which loading isn’t permitted it could lead to an aborted delivery. This obviously causes you a headache as it means delivery will need to be rescheduled but it can on occasion lead to additional charges to rearrange the delivery. Again the best thing to do in this situation if you are unsure is to give us a call on 0800 783 2328 to discuss it with our team.
