What types of home safes are available?

The eSafes online store offers a wide variety of home safes, from simple budget safes, cash safes and eurograde safes to specially designed fire safes, data safes or the latest underfloor and wall safes. All have been manufactured by one of the biggest brands in the industry, such Burton Safes, Securikey or Chubbsafes.

  • Cash safes
  • Security safes
  • Data safes
  • Fire safes
  • Gun safes

While cash and security safes are designed with burglary in mind, fire and data safes have been designed to withstand the additional threat of a home fire. This is worth bearing in mind since fires are common and important data can be destroyed. Are your passports, deeds and other documents protected?

What sizes should I choose?

It goes without saying that the size of safe you choose will depend heavily on what you are hoping to protect. A wide range of sizes are available, including laptop safes. Make a list of items you need to store and then choose the most appropriate dimensions in the safe of your choice. It is also worth considering where the safe will be positioned. Underfloor or wall safes are ultra secure ways to protect property since they are hidden from view, but their size will depend on where you plan to install them in the home.

What do safe ratings mean?

Cash ratings are applied based upon the degree of security provided. Home safes feature cash ratings from £1,000 to £17,500 plus, which means that in the event of loss or theft, this amount of cash can be covered by the owners home insurance policy. These safes are also covered to protect ten times the value of their cash rating in valuables. So, a safe with a cash rating of £1,000 is also approved to protect £10,000 worth of valuables. For home use a safe with a cash rating of £1,000 to £2,000 is usually sufficient, along with 30 minutes to an hour of proven heat or fire protection. Many of the safes available from eSafes are Eurograde approved, which is the industry predominant mark of quality. Many are also approved by the Association of Insurance Surveyors.

Will my safe affect my home insurance?

Cash ratings and Eurograde ratings can allow policyholders to claim up to the amount of cash and valuables specified by the rating in the event of fire and theft. It is absolutely essential however to consult your insurer to ensure that they are happy to recognise the safe and its rating. Home security systems such as alarms and home safes, could allow you to reduce your home insurance premiums.

Which locks and accessories do I need?

There are three kinds of locks available on the home safes available from our online collection: key, electronic locks and biometric locks. Many of the safes available offer a choice between key and electronic keypad locks. Keypad codes eliminate the need for keys which could be lost. There is however the risk that you might forget the code or the wrong person may learn it. Biometric locks are amongst the most technologically advanced available. They are designed to read the finger print of the owner and only unlock for this user.
