Could Your Kitchen Be A Security Secret Weapon?

Kitchen ImageWhen you think of locations to install your home safe many will think of the usual places: in a bedroom cupboard, in the garage or in the cupboard under the stairs.

However, what about the kitchen?

This might seem a little crazy but research shows that burglars will rarely if ever look in the kitchen during a robbery. Research in our last blog showed that burglars examined during a mock burglary experiment all avoided the kitchen and headed for other rooms instead.

If burglars enter your kitchen they will usually just give it a quick look over for car keys and any money lying around. They won’t spend time going through your kitchen cupboards as they’d rather spend time in your lounge or bedroom hunting for electronics and jewellery.

So if you've got the room how about bolting your safe into the back of one of your kitchen cupboards or in the pantry? The safe would then be hidden by items you stock in front of it, so for example when a burglar opens the cupboard he’ll just see a load of cereal boxes and move on leaving your safe and valuables intact.

The down sides to doing this are that you’d lose some cupboard space and you’d need to move food items out of the way when you wanted to gain access to the safe. But is this really such a bad thing if it means your cash and family valuables are kept out of the hands of thieves?

Obviously every home is different and the kitchen might not be a suitable location for everyone but it’s worth considering. If you’d like more advice about installing your home safe please give us a call and our team will be happy to run through the options based on your individual requirements.
