Is A Deposit Safe Worth The Investment?

Saving up for a house or car can be difficult – but it doesn’t need to be.

There are a couple of things you can do to come up with a deposit, including simple things like calculating how much you need and selling your belongings to raise the funds, and putting a small percentage of your salary into a savings account every month.

Once you (finally) get the keys to your new car or home, it’s only natural that you’ll want to protect it against all odds. And that’s where a deposit safe comes in handy for storing the keys and those all-important contracts.

What is a deposit safe?

A deposit safe – also known as a safety deposit box – allows you to store and protect cash, documents and valuables with ease.

Aside from keeping your possessions out of sight of opportunists, these security safes have a special mechanism, which stops people from being able to reach into the safe via the slot. To gain access to the safe and its contents, you’ll need to have the appropriate key or know the unique combination.

Safety deposit boxes in shape and size, and many of them can be bolted to the floor or wall to maximise security.

What can you store in a deposit safe?

As their name implies, deposit safes are ideal for businesses that need to deposit cash in fast-paced environments. But that’s not all you can keep inside a safety deposit box.

Deposit safes provide a fantastic storage solution for hard-to-replace items that you don’t need very often, such as:

  • car finance contracts
  • collectables
  • hard drives and USBs
  • jewellery
  • property deeds
  • spare keys

Is there anything you shouldn’t keep in a deposit safe?

Designed to withstand natural disasters, you can store almost anything you like in a deposit safe. However, there are a few things worth keeping out – just in case you need to access them in a hurry.

Though great for keeping paperwork safe, it’s a sensible idea not to stow the only copies of important documents and photos in your deposit safe. This includes things like your will and powers of attorney. Always make copies of them and let your loved ones know where they are.

Even if you don’t travel very often, you might need your passport for business or as a valid form of identification (in addition to your driving license). So, with that in mind, it’s probably best not to keep it locked away in a deposit safe – unless you can guarantee you’ll be able to get your hands on it within a moment’s notice.
